The Options window allows you to edit the basic settings of ARELIS. You can open it by selecting General Options from the Settings.
The General panel
| Check email messages against email filters
| Select this option to check your email messages against spam filters before sending the message. ARELIS will check your email messages and it will tell you if it could not be received by the recipient because he or she uses common email filters.
| Ask before removing a web site from the list
| If you deselect that option, ARELIS will not ask you anymore before removing a web site from the list. This comes in handy when you want to quickly remove web sites by pressing the Delete key.
| You can select the web browser to preview potential link partners. Usually, you use the built-in preview browser which you can see in the Preview panel at the bottom of the main window. You can also use an external web browser application, for example Microsoft's Internet Explorer. This allows you to see the Google PageRank of the web site if you have the Google toolbar installed.
| This menu lets you choose a color that will be used for the rows in the web site list in the main window.
The Internet Connection panel
| Maximum number of concurrent connections
| This menu lets you select the number of concurrent Internet connections ARELIS will use. If you have a 56k dial-up connection, use up to 3 concurrent connections. If you have a cable or DSL connection, you can use up to 16 concurrent connections.
The Contact Information panel
| Choose the way how ARELIS should try to find contact information
| ARELIS can try to find the contact information of the potential link partners. ARELIS supports two ways to get the contact information: whois servers or traversing the link partner's web site and search for the contact information. This option allows you to fine-tune the way how ARELIS should try to find the contact information of the potential link partners.
| If ARELIS searches for contact information...
| If you use the Find New Link Partners feature or the Add Web Site window, you can specify that ARELIS should try to find the email address of the potential web site. ARELIS tries to find the email address by traversing through the web site, following potential contact links (links that are called "contact us", "about us", etc.). Here you can specify the number of contact links that ARELIS should follow until it should give up. The higher the number, the longer the search process takes.
| If you add potential link partners (manually or with the Find New Link Partners window), then ARELIS tries to find the contact email address of the potential link partner. If the email address cannot be found, ARELIS will use the email name you enter in this field. For example, if you add www.good-site.com to the web site list and ARELIS cannot find an email address for it, and you enter "sales" as the default email name, ARELIS will use sales@good-site.com as the contact email address.
| This default email name will also be used when exporting the web site list for the sites whose contact email addresses could not be found.
The Applications panel
| Location of your web browser to view web pages
| ARELIS uses your default web browser to open your web pages. If you want to specify a different web browser, just select the location of the application. This comes in handy if your default web browser doesn't support the Google toolbar and you want ARELIS to use the
| web browser with the Google toolbar.
| Location of your FTP application to upload the link pages
| ARELIS creates link pages on your hard disk. You must upload these link pages to your Internet server. Here you can specify an FTP application with which you can upload the local link pages to your Internet server. If you don't have an FTP application, you can find a good free one at http://www.SmartFTP.com.
| Location of an application that you can open with a hot key
| You can specify an application that you want to quickly open at any time while using ARELIS. Just select the application and the key combination. Then you can press that key combination in the ARELIS main window to quickly open the selected application. For example, you can use it to open your favorite email application if you don't want to use the built-in email functionality of ARELIS.
The Updates panel
| ARELIS can automatically check for free updates. Choose an interval in this panel.
