ARELIS has a built-in link check feature that helps you to quickly check all links that are important for your link directory pages. ARELIS checks the following links:
| · | the URL of the web pages that are included in your link pages (all pages that have a ticked "Include in link pages" box)
|
| · | the URLs of the banner images you use on the link pages
|
| · | the URLs you entered in the "URL of the web page that contains a link to your site" edit field.
|
ARELIS also checks if the web page you entered in the "URL of the web page that contains a link to your site" edit field really contains a link to your site. That way, you can quickly find out if a link partner still links to you after a while. ARELIS checks only "http://" links. It doesn't check other links, for example "https://" or "ftp://".
How to check links
Switch to the Check Links panel in the ARELIS main window. Then click the "Check All Links..." button to start the link check. ARELIS will present you a list of the results. You can quickly sort the list by "Link Partner", "Link Type" and "Result" by clicking on the corresponding column header:
If ARELIS has found a broken link, double-click the line in the link check results. ARELIS will select the corresponding link partner and it will switch to the Edit Site panel so that you can quickly correct the broken link.
Note: ARELIS cannot automatically find out who links back to you. However, you can use ARELIS to find out if a link partner still links back to you. If a link partner agrees to link back to you, enter the URL of the web page that contains the link to your site in the "URL of the page that contains a link to your site (optional)" edit field in the Edit Site panel.
Whenever you use the link check feature in ARELIS, it will visit all web pages that are entered in the "URL of the page that contains a link to your site (optional)" edit field, and it will check if these pages still contain a link back to your site.
ARELIS can also check which web pages link to you and are indexed by search engines. Open the Find New Link Partners window and there, use the "Find sites that already link to you" option. ARELIS will then find all web sites that link to your site (provided they are already indexed by the search engines).
ARELIS will add all these sites to the web site list in the main window. If a web site is already listed in this list, ARELIS will add the URL of the page that contains a link back to you in the "URL of the page that contains a link to your site (optional)" edit field.
The "Check Links Options" window
This window allows you to specify the actions ARELIS should take when it finds a broken link. You can open the window by selecting "Check Links Options..." in the "Settings" menu in the ARELIS main window.
If ARELIS finds out that a link partner doesn't link back to you anymore, it can automatically change the status of that web page (for example, it can change the status text to "doesn't link back anymore") and remove that web page from your link directory.
You can then sort the list in the main window by status to quickly find all web sites that don't link to you anymore and contact these sites with the built-in email client of ARELIS.
